This is the collection of examples of the concert ideas generated, conducted and hosted by Marjo Riihimäki.

 

PEDAGOGICAL PROJECTS

Marjo has solid experience in pedagogical work as a teacher, conductor and choir director. Co-operation during orchestra periods, for example with young soloists, students or local choirs, takes place in a supportive atmosphere, taking into account musicians working at different levels.

 

CROSSOVER-CONCERTS

Marjo loves to combine different styles and ensembles. She has experience for example combining choir and percussion ensemble, an acappella choir and big band, and jazz ensemble and symphony orchestra.

 

SYMPHONIC MODERN MUSIC

Conducting modern symphonic music is an important part of wind musician’s basic repertoire. Marjo has conducted works by composers such as Kalevi Aho, Atso Almila, Leonard Bernstein, Timo Forsström, David R. Gillingham, George Gershwin, Ilari Hylkilä, Chang-Su Koh, Jukka-Pekka Lehto, Jukka Linkola, Pasi Lyytikäinen, Juha Pisto, Aulis Sallinen and Lotta Wennäkoski.

She has also conducted world premieres of Rolf Gustavson’s Airborne in 2021 and Lauri Porra’s Tuba Concerto in 2023.

 

CONCERTS FOR FIRST-TIMERS

Concerts are suitable for schools aswell.

Movie Quiz

An interactive concert including questionnaire for the audience. The orchestra plays variety of great melodies – both symphonic music that has been used in movies and music that has been composed for movies.

The Favorites of Coach Potatoes

Do you remember when there was no streaming services, and you had to watch the trailer and listen the theme music of the show? Now you have the opportunity to travel back in time! This concert offers you themes of your favorite shows: Matlock, Dallas, Stargate and the Simpsons  – among many others.

The Victims of the Commercials

During the twentieth century television became one of the most important advertisement channel. The companies came up with new ideas to get their products popular by using live picture and music combined. Music was often ”stolen” from famous classical composers – and this concert reveals the pieces and their beauty.

Olympic Atmospheres

Remember the best hymns and fanfares ever played in Olympic Games? This concert invites you to enjoy great music by famous composers, not to forget the touching ballads performed during the olympic opening seremonies.

 

JAZZ AND ENTERTAINING CONCERTS

Concert program can be put together as an instrumental or add a soloist. Marjo has collaborated lately for example with jazztrumpetist Tero Lindberg, soprano Angelika Klas, queen of musicals Saara Aalto, jazz singer Elena Mindru and soulsister Juliaana Vehviläinen.

 

CHILDREN’S CONCERTS

Animalistic

The “Animalistic” concert includes delightful children’s songs composed by Sarianna Tammilehto.

Wild Symphony

Story and music by Dan Brown combines poems of different animals and charming music.

Pink Panther

Concert including themes of children’s tv shows and game music.
